Midtown Detroit welcomed a vibrant addition to its landscape with the grand opening of Six55 Detroit, a $10 million mixed-income housing development led by developer Richard Hosey. The 36-unit residential complex, strategically located at 655 W. Willis in the Willis Selden neighborhood, promises to enhance the area's vitality and provide diverse housing options.

Mayor Mike Duggan and city leaders joined the celebration, marking the culmination of efforts to transform a previously vacant, city-owned lot into a thriving community space. The development comprises nine studio apartments, 18 one-bedroom units, and nine two-bedroom units, offering a mix of housing options to cater to different needs.

One of the standout features of Six55 Detroit is its commitment to affordability. Nine studio apartments are reserved for households with incomes up to 80% of the area median income, ensuring that a range of residents can call this new development home. The housing project not only adds residential density to the walkable Midtown neighborhood but also provides a scenic view of the city from its rooftop deck, adding a touch of luxury to the living experience. 

The location of Six55 Detroit, nestled between Second and Third Avenues, emphasizes the importance of utilizing smaller parcels around the city for meaningful urban development. The project aligns with Detroit's ongoing efforts to repurpose vacant lots, contributing to neighborhood growth while generating revenue for the city.
