Detroit’s East Chadsey Condon neighborhood has a vibrant new addition: Campbell Street Apartments, a $18 million, 40‑unit community that officially welcomed its first residents this week. Tucked along Michigan Avenue between Junction and Livernois, these “deeply affordable” apartments offer one‑, two‑, and three‑bedroom layouts exclusively to households earning no more than 30% of the area median income—about $21,210 per year for a single individual.
Designed by Detroit nonprofit MiSide Community Impact Network, the development provides modern comforts alongside essential supports. Residents enjoy a bright community center complete with a full kitchen and entertainment space, on‑site laundry, and dedicated parking. Thanks to project‑based vouchers from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, tenants will never pay over 30% of their income in rent, ensuring truly below‑market rates.
Bringing life back to a site vacant for over 30 years, MiSide President and CEO Sean de Four praised the collective effort: “With the backing of Detroit, the state of Michigan, and our partners, we’ve created a housing option that reflects our core values and meets critical needs. Campbell Street Apartments doesn’t just provide a home—it reconnects residents to nearby employers, restaurants, and shops.”
Looking ahead, MiSide is gearing up to launch the Wesson Apartments in the same corridor by late 2026. Community leaders see these developments as crucial anchors in a rapidly evolving area. “Expanding affordable housing is vital to keeping Detroiters here and inviting new neighbors,” said Deputy Mayor Melia Howard, celebrating the city’s growing capacity to offer safe, budget‑friendly homes as well as its bright future.
