The inaugural Michigan-China week kicked off earlier this month in Detroit's historic Book Cadillac Hotel. According the Detroit Free Press, business leaders and elected officials across the state of Michigan are making an effort to strengthen the state's relationship with China. The aim is to attract new investment from Chinese businesses and individuals that will create jobs. As part of the week long event, more than 150 business and government officials from China visited Detroit to discuss the broadening of the business relationship between China and the State of Michigan. The Free Press article which you can read here, states that there are more than 300 Chinese firms in Michigan which support at least 6,000 jobs.

Mayor Mike Duggan spoke about the City's relationship with China: “Detroit is re-establishing itself as a place to attract investment from around the world.” “China is the world’s most rapidly growing economy, and we want to have a strong relationship.” Chinese individuals and institutions have been heavily investing in Detroit's real estate market for several years now.
