Carhartt, a global workwear and lifestyle brand, recently announced plans to significantly expand its operations in Michigan, adding jobs and investing millions in the state.
The company is planning to bring new jobs to its Detroit headquarters and three Michigan-based manufacturing sites. The expansion will also add investment of more than $19 million.
Carhartt plans to hire roughly 400 new workers in the state. Positions will range from customer service and clerical roles to engineering and manufacturing jobs.
The proposed expansion is designed to meet the increased demand for Carhartt apparel, particularly its outerwear and flame-resistant categories. The company plans to invest in technology to streamline operations and expand production capacity.
The expansion of Carhartt to other areas of Michigan includes investments in systems and processes at the company’s Plymouth and Dearborn facilities, which help to support core apparel and global sourcing capabilities, respectively. Carhartt CEO Mark Valade made it clear that the company’s presence in the Detroit area will continue to grow.
